Lake Salto

Lake Salto, located in the beautiful area known as Cicolano, at an elevation of 535 m, is an artificial basin created in the 1940s after damming the Salto river, which rises on the mountains of Marsica and flows into the Velino in Rieti. For the construction of the basin many villages were destroyed, but some of them, rebuilt successively, have become highly appreciated tourist centers, especially in summer when thousands of visitors coming from all over Lazio decide to spend their holidays or weekends. The lake, characterized by inlets and small fjords, extends for about 10 km. and is overlooked by ancient villages perched on the surrounding heights.
