What to see?
A visit to the castle represents an obligatory stop for tourists arriving in Montenero. This superb complex, originally erected for military purposes was later transformed into a stately residence. The castle, located in the highest part of the village, overlooks the structure of the village below, which runs "like a train" to the opposite end marked by the parish church of San Cataldo, first mentioned in the late 15th century and presumably built by the Orsini family. The modern Municipal Library, housed in the prestigious and historic Palazzo Bonacasata, offers children and students a video library, an internet point and large spaces for reading, also representing an important and useful meeting place for residents.
